Summer camp and school clubs can be a life changing experience - it’s where friendships are forged, memories are made, and meaningful connections to the natural world begin.
Explorer Camps break down the barriers that prevent children from attending camps and connecting with nature. With a traveling van, explorer camps and clubs take the Three Rivers Park District experience to the local parks and neighborhoods of communities that need them most. For many participants, this is their first opportunity to have the camp experience that so many people value.
Studies show that a connection with nature improves cognitive abilities, concentration, confidence, and social relationships. In addition, connecting with nature enhances academic performance and can reduce rates of ADHD. The Three Rivers Parks District Foundation believes that every child should have the opportunity to connect to nature through a summer camp or school club experience.
