Recreating in the outdoors has innumerable benefits. It improves people’s physical and mental health, provides social opportunities, and helps empowers people in other areas of their lives.

The Three Rivers Park District Foundation believes that an active outdoor lifestyle should be accessible to all and are working hard to break down barriers to better ensure that everyone has the opportunity to recreate outdoors through adapted programs for people with physical and cognitive disabilities, including children, veterans, and seniors. With specialized equipment and support personnel, adapted programming empowers people of all abilities to take advantage of all the amazing recreational opportunities at Three Rivers Park District and connect with the wonders of our parks.
Through our efforts, the Foundation has funded the purchase of equipment such as adapted mountain bikes, sit skis, and kayaks and supported the creation of sensory friendly kits for use in Three Rivers Park District parks and camps, with the Autism Society of Minnesota.

"Paddling an adaptive kayak was the catalyst that [brought] me into a new life of self-confidence I never before thought possible... Without the Three Rivers adaptive kayaking program leading the path, I would not be who I am today."
